3 clever ways to flex your creative muscles without even realizing it

 You’ve just finished a zoom call on the beach, with the team. The sun is just creeping up, you’re heading for an early morning swim. Aaah! Life is good. You hear a seagull. Man, that’s a loud one!

 Nope, that’s the alarm. You immediately hit snooze. Back to the beach. The water was perfect, now let’s grab some coffee. What is your boss doing here? He’s ticking his wrist, it looks like you’re late. Why is he screaming? Oh, it’s that damn alarm again! SNOOZE.

It feels like you’re in a deep coma until a thought hits you: What time is it? You get up, look at your phone. It’s 8:30 am. Great! You’re late again. The struggle is real. Now you need to put everything on fast forward.

Whether we realize it or not, we all need creative solutions in our day-to-day life. From the moment we wake up, to be exact. How else would you juggle getting ready for the day, especially when you’re late and you also need to get your kid or kids ready in no time?

You need to find creative ways to make kids cooperate, to keep them interested or entertained. You have to find the fastest route to school and work. Creative inspiration is usually needed to do your job as well, whether you work in a creative field or not. No, seriously, the list is neverending. 

But the good news is that creativity is simply a skill you can develop and improve.

What if I told you that it’s possible to give your creativity a boost daily, with just a couple of quick exercises? Fun guaranteed. So here we go.

Do things differently!

Literally. If you’re naturally right-handed, try using your left hand more for at least a couple of minutes every day. Start with a simple task like brushing your teeth and for the next few days, exclusively use your left hand to do it. 

Take a different route to work. Bike to work instead of driving. If you usually drink coffee in the morning, replace it with tea or a smoothie once a week. Work while standing every other hour, rather than sitting in your office chair the whole day. Fun fact: I’m standing while writing this. 😉

We could go on forever, but you get the point. The whole idea is to naturally stimulate your brain by constantly changing things up.

It’s time for a timer!

Need to load the dishwasher, vacuum the house, or meal prep? How about setting a timer to see how much you can get done in 10 or 15 minutes? I promise, setting a timer will help you focus and you’ll find new ways to do things faster than usual. It’s highly addictive. You’ll want to beat your own record. 

Your kids will love it too for doing homework, chores, outside playtime, or TV time. Also, have you ever heard of the Pomodoro Technique? A timer has so many clever uses that we simply need a whole article dedicated to it. ( Coming soon!)

Take notes!

You know how it is. If you’re looking to buy a new pair of shoes, chances are you’ll catch yourself naturally noticing the type of shoes every person you meet is wearing. Or is that just me? 🤔 

No, but really, it’s actually scientifically proven that whatever you focus on, expands

So if you want to become a more creative person, you need to simply cultivate a creative mindset, to be aware. Our minds are flooded with different ideas every single day and more often than not, we let them go to waste. However, you won’t waste a good idea if you catch it and immediately write it down.

You can use anything from the Notepad or Google Keep app on your phone to a classic paper notepad to write down ideas. You can do that whenever you feel inspired, while you’re sitting in line, in traffic, or while you’re drinking your coffee in the morning. How cool is this Big Ideas Brainstorming Notepad?
